ARTi at the 2025 International Biomass Conference & Expo: Innovations in Biochar from Atlanta to the World
In March, ARTi attended the 2025 International Biomass Conference & Expo in Atlanta, one of the key annual events for professionals working across the biomass and bioenergy sectors. Bernardo del Campo, along with David Philips and Diego Guevara, were on-site to connect with others in the field and stay up to date with developments in biomass technologies and applications. The event brought together a diverse range of companies, researchers, and policymakers focused on advancing practical and sustainable uses of biomass.

A Growing Industry: Pyrolysis and Biochar Take Center Stage
Reflecting on his experience at the event, Chief Business Officer for ARTi Diego Guevara noted significant growth in the biomass industry since attending the same conference in Jacksonville in 2022. “I evidenced growth in the industry,” Guevara shared, highlighting the increasing focus on pyrolysis and biochar. Once considered a niche or experimental solution, pyrolysis is now recognized as a proven, market-ready technology. Discussions at the conference underscored its expanding applications, not only in soil enhancement but also in industries that include steel production and construction materials. This shift signals a broader acceptance of biochar as a versatile, sustainable solution, aligning with ARTi’s mission to innovate in this space.
Networking and Strategic Connections
ARTi’s team maximized their time in Atlanta by walking the conference floor, visiting booths, and forging connections with suppliers, manufacturers, and potential clients. Guevara emphasized the value of these interactions, particularly in identifying opportunities to enhance ARTi’s biomass preprocessing capabilities. We have made a lot of advancements. However, it was striking to see what others have been achieving in areas such as dryers, grinders, and pelletizers. Engaging with these experts opened doors to potential supplier relationships and commercial partnerships that could streamline ARTi’s operations.
The conference also provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships with existing leads and collaborators. ARTi engaged in productive conversations that advanced ongoing discussions and opened doors for potential partnerships, including opportunities to supply technology or biochar to meet growing demand. In-person meetings offered deeper insights into operations, expansion plans, and decision-making processes. These connections emphasized the importance of face-to-face engagement in building trust and momentum for the projects ARTi is currently developing. As Guevara noted, “It’s nice to meet people in person after working online. It provides a lot of value to what we do and who we are.”
A Highlight: Visiting Electrotherm’s ORC Facility
One of the trip’s standout moments was a visit to Electrotherm, a supplier of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems, which ARTi uses to generate power from the waste heat of its reactors. An ORC system generates electricity from low-temperature heat using an organic fluid, ideal for waste heat recovery. Guevara described the visit as a key highlight, noting the opportunity to see their custom-built ORC unit on the factory floor. “We got to visit their plant, which had very nice, well-organized, and well-established processes,” he said. The team also witnessed an ORC system in action, generating power, which validated its potential for ARTi’s power project. Meeting the Electrotherm team in person, after months of virtual discussions, further solidified this critical partnership.
Looking Ahead: ARTi’s Vision for Biochar
The 2025 International Biomass Conference & Expo reaffirmed ARTi’s position at the forefront of the biochar industry. The event highlighted the growing market for pyrolysis and biochar, the value of strategic partnerships, and the potential for technological advancements to drive efficiency. By connecting with suppliers, clients, and innovators, ARTi strengthened its network and laid the groundwork for future collaborations. As Guevara reflected, “The purpose of the conference was getting more leads, developing relationships with current leads and clients, and it was a really good experience.”
